The short version
Your documents stay on your device. PDF slime opens, edits and saves PDFs entirely on-device — no document content is ever uploaded, and there is no account and no login.
The app does show ads, and that part does involve the internet. Ads are provided by Google AdMob, which collects data about your device in order to serve them. Where the law requires it, you are asked for consent first and no ad is requested until you have answered. The two sections below say exactly what that means.
Documents and advertising are kept strictly separate: nothing about the PDFs you open — not their content, not their text, not their file names, not even the fact that you opened one — is shared with the ad system or anyone else.
What the app does with your documents
When you open a PDF in PDF slime:
- The file is read directly from wherever you chose it (your device's file picker), using Android's standard file-access system. PDF slime is never given broader access to your storage than the one file you picked.
- All rendering, editing, and exporting happens locally, using on-device processing. No document content, page image, extracted text, or metadata leaves your device — this remains true with advertising enabled.
- If you save your edits, the resulting file is written back to a location you choose, again through your device's standard file picker. PDF slime does not keep a separate copy anywhere else.
Unsaved edits
PDF slime does not write drafts to disk. While you are editing, your changes exist only in the app's memory:
- Nothing is written anywhere until you explicitly save, and you always choose the destination through your device's file picker.
- When you leave a document with unsaved edits, PDF slime asks whether to save them as a new copy or discard them. Discarding leaves your original file exactly as it was.
- If the app is closed from the recent-apps screen, or stopped by the system, unsaved edits are gone — there is no draft left behind on your device for anyone to recover.
Advertising
PDF slime displays a banner advertisement on its home screen. It is provided by Google AdMob, and no ad is ever shown on top of, or next to, the document you are editing.
To serve those ads, Google collects and processes data about your device. According to Google's own disclosures, that can include:
- Your advertising ID (a resettable identifier you control in Android's settings).
- Device information — model, operating system version, language, and similar technical details.
- Your IP address, from which an approximate location (typically city-level, not precise) can be derived.
- Ad interaction data — whether an ad was shown, viewed, or clicked.
This data is collected by Google, not by us. We do not receive it, store it, or have any access to it, beyond aggregate earnings figures that identify nobody. Your consent, and how to change it
Where the law requires consent for personalised advertising — including the EU, EEA, UK and Switzerland — PDF slime uses Google's User Messaging Platform to ask you before any ad is requested. No ad request is made until you have answered. If you decline, the app remains fully usable; you simply see no ads, or non-personalised ones, depending on the choice you make.
You can change your mind at any time. You can also reset or delete your advertising ID entirely from your device settings (Settings → Google → Ads, on most Android versions), which limits how much can be tied together across apps.
Data we collect
We collect nothing ourselves. PDF slime has no analytics, no telemetry, no crash reporting, and no server of its own. Specifically, we do not collect:
- Your name, email, or any account information (there is no account).
- Your documents or any content from them.
- Analytics, usage statistics, or crash reports.
- Any personal or device data of our own.
Google AdMob collects data as described in "Advertising" above. That is the only data collection connected with this app, it exists solely to serve ads, and it is never linked to anything about your documents.
Permissions
PDF slime requests two permissions, both only for advertising:
- Internet access — used only by the ad system. Your documents are never sent over it.
- Advertising ID — used by AdMob to serve and measure ads, as described above.
It does not request storage permissions. It uses Android's Storage Access Framework, which lets you grant access to individual files without giving the app broader access to your storage.
Children's privacy
PDF slime is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone, and the app is not intended for use by children under the age at which advertising consent applies in their country.
Changes to this policy
If a future version of PDF slime changes any of the above, this policy will be updated first, and the update will clearly describe what changes and what, if anything, is collected or shared at that point. Continuing to use the app after such a change means you accept the updated policy.
